Ruminations On The New Fed Chairman, Nuclear Weapons And Health Care

The 60 vote cloture rule is a good check on extremism. It can’t be used for budget reconciliation because you need a budget. But Obamacare is not budget reconciliation. Even though you have the stronger team and the lead, you can’t change rules in mid-game and keep the fans. Let’s hope the Dems realize that or if they don’t, we may not need to worry about 60 Dem votes for too long.

Former FBI agent Brad Garrett is well known in law enforcement circles. A hostage negotiator for 17 years, he’s the one who got confessions from the first World Trade Center bomber, the D-C sniper, the cia shooter and on and on. He’s worked so many big murder case in the last 15 years that it earned him the nickname as Dr. Death. His experience tells him what?

Or, they can take a second path. What is other Republican option? Get out of the way. Stop fighting reform that will benefit all Americans and that most want to see happen. Let a real, usable public option be passed. Or better yet, an extension of Medicare that allows anyone who wants to the chance to buy into it. Either way, legislation could move ahead.

So enough with the doom and gloom, is there a solution? The simple answer is the solutions are numerous and most involve sacrifice. Solutions like earning more on your investment assets, forgoing emergency room visits except in real emergencies, better diet, more exercise, higher taxes, substantially lower benefits, and so on, and so on.

But the problem actually is not that — you know, the extraordinary steps that we’ve taken over these last one or two years. The real problem is much longer. Even if we had had no fiscal crisis whatsoever, we have a structural deficit. We’re spending more money than we are taking in. We’ve been doing it for the last eight years. When we passed the prescription drug benefit for Medicare, by a Republican Congress, they didn’t pay for it. They didn’t want to raise taxes, but they wanted to get the benefit. That just was red ink. That just went into our structural deficit.

People like me die every day because we don’t want to burden our families with financial destitution. People like me die every day because we live in a country that cares more about its politics than its people. If we could step back from the politics and recognize that the health of a nation is determined by the people who live in our country, we might care more about the people who are dying at the hands of greedy pharmaceutical and insurance companies. We might back the reformers of health care. Sick citizens do not make for healthy countries.

We’ve elected our first African American president who has been in office about a year now. The polls are already judging him and dropping by his accomplishments of that first year. As usual we expect everything to be fixed by now but it took awhile for our country to become this way. He was slow on his judgment of sending more to war but pushing so quickly to get this health care reform through. The health care reform – personally I could wait on. They are pushing too fast. I feel this needs more time for thought and work.

This has also been largely ignored by the so called “main stream media”, which is corporate owned. Also ignored is the fact that the number of poor closely mirrors the number of uninsured in america.

Calorie Counting A Rquirement In The Health Care Bill

In an excellent piece on Media Matters, entitled “No Excuses; Why the TV nets must carry Obama’s press conference this week,” Eric Boehlert explains in no uncertain terms why it’s vital for the American people to hear from their president (on airwaves which belong to the public), and he destroys the networks’ major complaint (not just Fox), that Obama holds too many press conferences and is cutting into their valuable advertising revenue. Among other points, Boehlert reminds the networks that Obama’s press conference might actually provide them with a viewing boost, since ratings this summer have been the lowest in the history of broadcast television (Boehlert’s column is too long for me to recap here but I strongly encourage you to read the whole piece).

It is interesting therefore that left-wing bloggers and such (I cover the spectrum on Facebook) are now openly talking about going without Republican support, even without some Democratic support, as the openly talk of using reconciliation to avoid the oft-misunderstood 60 vote requirement. See Goose or gander? The 60 votes. But basically, the 60 votes are a Senate rule for cutting off debate, nothing more, nothing less. If they want it bad enough, they can pass it with 50 plus Biden.

First, I want everybody to understand the source of our deficit, because if you don’t understand that, then my argument won’t make sense. When I walked into the White House, I had gift-wrapped, waiting for me at the door a .3 trillion deficit — .3 trillion. Now, I say that — (applause) — I just want to — I just want to — I just want to — I say that — this was not — and this is not, by the way, entirely the previous administration’s fault. The financial crisis was so bad that revenues plummeted and all this money was spent in making sure that the banking system did not completely collapse. So all the actions that have been taken — the bank bailout, the auto bailout, all that stuff — that did spike the deficit.

health care reform is not a Republican problem. It is not a Democrat problem. It is not a conservative problem or a liberal problem. Health care reform is a moral issue. People are dying because they cannot afford to stay alive.

A country that allows its citizens to die because they cannot afford health insurance, a country that places politics and profit above the importance of people is a country whose character has been marred by moral corruption. I could have been your mother, your sister, your daughter, or your friend. Would you have cared then? Would you have paid for my medical treatments? And if you had, would I have allowed you to lose everything you owned just so I could live?

Recently, the cable companies did a survey. The cable outlets are scared; they’re trying to hold onto people because it’s becoming more common to watch tv on the internet through things like Hulu, or (if the cable company’s lucky), on TiVo. Cable costs money; Hulu is free, so viewers –younger viewers– are cutting the cord to TV –either regular, cable or satellite.

I took care of myself too. But despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle, one day, after my children had grown, I discovered a lump in my breast. Every day it grew noticeably larger. I couldn’t have known, but i suspected, that i was dealing with an aggressive form of breast cancer.

Hostess: Thank you, Senator A. Senator B, your party is accused as being the Party of No. Is there anything that Senator A’s party can do to the current Bill to make it a bi-partisan effort?

The fact of the matter is, we had juvenile delinquency, political assassinations and violent crime long before talk radio, cable news, video games or any of this.

As a political advisor, and writer, I find myself scouring the Internet on a regular basis for articles and information that I deal with current political issues. From time to time, I will find one that will cause me to slap my head with frustration. Usually, these articles tend to have a title like, “President Bush is a Lizard Man in Disguise.” In this case, this article, which is meant to guide immigrants to this country, gives a horribly misleading picture of what has happened.

As with most Americans, we will probably not see a change until 2014 when the law goes into effect. Since we pay more than 9.5 percent of our current income for insurance premiums, we will be eligible for tax credits to pay for premiums, or help with deductibles and co-payments. These tax credits will keep the cost of our insurance premiums below ,750, based on family size and income. Additionally, our out-of-pocket deductibles and co-payments could be capped at 30 percent of cost.

So why are the insurance companies so dead set against it? Because they know that it will be far less expensive, far better plan. Basically it comes down to this: They don’t want the competition!

The federal government sat around with its thumb up its ass as the world’s greatest economic collapse since the Great Depression happened all around it. The response of the federal government once they did decide to act was to give trillions of dollars of tax money to the very people whose insane speculative investments had caused the collapse. You want more of that-in your health care?

The Many Benefits Of Health Care Reform

They have changed signs, phone messages, schools and school books and anything else they could, to be in Spanish. I fought for my job last year, because of illegals at HR Block, coming in for their ITIN’S, and the need to be proficient in Spanish. It has become a normal thing to be required to speak Spanish on the job. Did we have to learn Vietnamese or Italian or any other language to accommodate other people who migrated to the U.S.? No! I haven’t seen one printed item that had those languages added to the English version, except some instructions.

In all honesty, though it pains me to say this in writing, if those programs had not been made available to me, or if i had had lung or some other form of cancer not covered in the available programs, I would not have burdened my family with the financial responsibility of caring for me. They would never have known, unless perhaps they decided to have an autopsy performed, why I died so suddenly.

When Barack obama told us passing his 7 billion stimulus bill would ensure unemployment would never rise above 7.8% and that by 2010 the economy would employ 138.6 million jobs, he was either lying or recklessly uninformed. Nothing in the stimulus bill could guarantee that claim. Keynsian policies never have and never will create jobs but even if the policies did work, the claim was simply unsupportable. It was what is called an expedient lie. Like many we have heard over the past months.

I don’t believe the Government is going to do anything. President Obama or whoever is sitting up there is not going to lift a finger to make these people leave. They say it is impossible to know where all of the illegals are, yet HR Block and other tax offices, handle thousands of ITIN’s each year. An ITIN is an identifying process for illegals that lets them work, file taxes and get a refund back. We sent those checks to local addresses, that are a part of a permanent record. We can’t find them? The irs did!

Most brokers have an underwriting guide for each carrier they represent. If a client has a medical condition they can verify if the carrier is going to increase your premium or deny coverage. This can save you a lot of time filling out an application for a plan you might not qualify for.

Michael R. Blood, Associated Press Political Writer, has written an article titled, “Primaries from Calif to SC measure voter anger.” It should state “will measure voters’ anger” because nothing is known yet. What is going to happen on Tuesday is some questions will be answered. What type and how much political clout does the Tea Party movement really have? Have we been paying too much attention to them or not enough? Are incumbents going to pay a price for ramming the health care reform down our throats?

Senator B: The President is an ideologue who is bent on imposing his views on the America people. Calling the summit is really is a futile effort to give a semblance of bi-partisanship.
